Description: CS: (13. ledna 1922, Brno – 7. července 1988, Prudká u Doubravníku) byl český malíř, jeden z nejmladších členů Skupiny 42. Patřil mezi významné představitele brněnské poválečné malby 20. století. S malováním se Bohumír Matal poprvé setkal u svého vzdáleného příbuzného. V letech 1937–1941 vystudoval Školu uměleckých řemesel v Brně (prof. E. Hrbek, František Václav Süsser). V roce 1941 byl zatčen za protifašistickou činnost a byl odvezen do tábora Lohbruck u Breslau. Tam pracoval v řetězárně. Malování se už věnovat nemohl, a tak psal dopisy rodině, které vždy doplnil kresbou. Celkem napsal na dvě stovky dopisů ilustrovaných kresbou tužkou. Z Německa se vrátil v únoru 1945 ve velmi špatném zdravotním stavu. Po zotavení se začal opět věnovat malbě. V roce 1946 vystavoval v Paříži s dalším mladými výtvarníky. Hned v následujícím roce se malíř dočkal samostatné výstavy, kterou mu uspořádal Klub výtvarných umělců Aleš. K nejčastějším námětům Bohumíra Matala patřil člověk a město, civilizace a industrializace - cementárny, papírny atd. První obrazy obsahovaly náměty vzducholodí, přístavů a ulic v dešti, postupně se jeho práce úzce propojila s programem Skupiny 42. Po politických a společenských změnách v roce 1948 se Bohumír Matal uzavřel ve svém ateliéru a dál tvořil v duchu Skupiny 42. Maloval také portréty a do této doby se datují známé obrazy Cyklisté 1952, 1954. V polovině padesátých let se situace opět trochu uvolnila a Bohumír Matal společně s Vladislavem Vaculkou a Vladimírem Vašíčkem založil skupinu Brno 57. V 60. letech se v Matalově tvorbě objevuje experiment a abstrakce. V této době se věnoval kromě malby také scénografii. Po roce 1968 odešel z Brna do Prudké u Doubravníku, kde si zakoupil a mlýn, který přestavěl na ateliér. Zde také po delší nemoci 7. července zemřel. After the political and social changes in 1948 Bohumír Matal concluded in his studio and continued formed in the spirit of Group 42.
