A series of former mines, all fenced off to protect the public. They appear to have been drilled downward with the deepest one currently around 20 feet deep. Plenty of evidence in the area that machinery was here a long time ago. A wooden information post is at the site and reads as follows.

Parson's Mountain Gold Mines
Gold was discovered in this area in the early 1800s.
These exploratory shafts were dug in the 19th
or early 20th century. In 1852 the well-known
Dorn Mine located at the town of McCormick was
underway. These shafts are remnants of
South Carolina's gold rush days.

An excellent hike to get here is to park at the Parsons Mountain recreational area at N34 05.808 W082 21.282 and do the 1.2 mile hike to the site with an additional 0.3 mile hike to the summit of Parsons Mountain. However, you can drive within 150 feet of this location by parking on Tower Road at N 34° 05.259 W 082° 21.695
