Description of Memorial: This veterans memorial is made up of an obelisk-shaped monument made of rock. There looks to have been possibly a light or flagpole post on top of the monument but only a metal piece remains. This park was once Fort Lowell in the late 1800s and was erected by the U.S. Army to help protect settlers and pioneers from Indian raids and attacks as the country was being settled. The fort was abandoned in the early 1900s and became a park in the 1920s. There are still remnants of the former adobe buildings that once housed military personnel and one of the officer quarters was rehabilitated and made into the Fort Lowell Historical Museum nearby this memorial.
