In Boston's Harbor, at Georges Island, is a ferry dock where people can get off and explore Georges Island/Fort Warren or board another boat to another island within the harbor.
Georges Island is a centrally located island within the harbor. On this island is a complete fort from the Civil War era, Fort Warren. There are other events that happen on this island, such as reenactments of Civil War encampments and old time baseball games (both happened while we were there). Other islands also have fortifications and are used for hiking, camping, and exploring.
The dock is on the west side of the island and is near the park's exhibit area and information center. Ferry boats come from several locations, including Hingham, Hull, and Boston. There are also small ferries and water taxis from here that you can take to the other islands. All ferries to the islands are passenger only. Bikes cannot be ridden on the islands.
The fee and schedule information is on the web site. The ferry is seasonal. The summer schedule from June to September is busiest. There is also a schedule for ferries from mid September to mid October.
