A sign by the statue reads:

"Monument to Peter I, Emperor of Russia. Model, plaster of Paris. Artist G. Schmidt-Cassel, 1908-1910. From 1910 till 1914 the monument stood at the site of the present Monument to Freedom."

The full-scale version of this statue used to be located by the entrance to the Old Town of Riga, but it has since been removed and replaced with a Freedom Monument.
