This grouping of silhouettes recognises the “North West Mounted Police” (NWMP) who established a horse farm in Pincher Creek.

When the NWMP reached Pincher Creek in 1878, they turned the horse herd out to graze and proceeded to build their barracks.

Their duty was to police the country from the boundary line to the Porcupine Hills and west to the Rockies and to raise horses for the force. The horses were bought from the locals.

The scene shows two NWMP riding on horses and a cowboy with a lasso chasing three mustangs into a corral.

Boulder Metal Industries was awarded this contract in December of 2002 and employee Eric Boese created the silhouettes.

Information was transcribed from the walking guide we picked up at the visitors center in Pincher Creek.
