"1849 - The Second railroad to enter Owego arrives, the New York & Erie Railroad, which built
through Owego in 1849. This became the Erie Railroad, with its 6-foot gauge mainline between New York City and Dunkirk, becoming the famous "Southern Tier Main", still in use today through Owego by Norfolk Southern."
