This Zinc Headstone is located in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Norfolk. Although it dates from 1869, it is in very good shape. Weathering has had little effect on it. Neither did invasive plants or moisture. The raised lettering and different decorative details look like they are new. The only sign of wear is a little splitting at the seem between the front and the back pieces.

There is not much information available about John S. Bisbee other than he once was part of the Confederate States Army as is proposed to think by the decorative piece leaning against the monument on its front right corner. Mr Bisbee did not die during battle since the CS Army surrendered in 1865 and the Confederacy's government was effectively dissolved with the last meeting of the Confederate cabinet on May 5, 1865, and with the capture of President Jefferson Davis by Union forces on May 10, 1865.

There is writing on both the front and the back faces of the headstone.
