With a 2½ hour return walk from Solander Rd, Kurnell, it is possible to pick up a couple of Waymarks while finding the very white square tower of the active Cape Baily Lighthouse for the southern entrance to Botany Bay.

To aid northbound ships to hug the coast a bit more, and thus avoid the strong prevailing southerly currents, but still remain safe, plans were started in the 1930s for a lighthouse in this area. But for unspecified reasons those plans were mooted (but probably with the World War II occurring, and not wanting to aid 'enemies') until in 1950 it was completed.
While the 'site' is open to walkers (and if really keen you could cycle), the 9 m tall tower is closed to the public.
The 1,200 cd light is charged and powered by solar cells. The range is considered to be 10 to 13 nautical miles (19 to 24 km).
Conflicting articles state the light is identified by "four white flashes, separated by 2 s, every 16 s", or "Flashing (3) in 9 Seconds".
It is operated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
