This decorative concrete fountain, a civic project by a long-vanished social club active and you all the during the 1920s, has been moved and placed in the center of a small landscaped area in the plaza downtown, across from the Uvalde County courthouse.
It looks to Blasterz like this fountain has been dry for generations. Locals we spoke to said that they could never remember it running and these folks were in their 40s, and had lived in Uvalde all their lives.
Today it is an interesting sculptural element anchoring some symmetrical shrubbery near the center of the Plaza. It has a cool 1920s look to it, so even though it no longer works as a fountain, it still adds character to the plaza.
Blasterz think the best evidence for this being a converted fountain is that it no longer sits in a water catch basin, but instead is in the middle of a cleared soil patch. If this still functioned as a fountain, this would be the best mud pit in Texas, and Younger Blasterz (and maybe one Older Blaster) would be the first ones in on a hot summer day.
