Anson Jones was a physician, businessman, congressman, and the fourth and last President of the Republic of Texas. He is sometimes called the "Architect of Annexation." He was a member of the Masonic Harmony Lodge #52 of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Jones practiced medicine, was active in Texas politics, and became a prosperous planter. Jones County is named for him and his plantation home is preserved at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park.
