William Alexander Anderson "Bigfoot" Wallace joined the Texas Rangers under John Coffee Hays and was with the Rangers during the Mexican War. In the 1850's Captain Wallace commanded a Ranger company of his own. He was the most famous frontiersman in the history of the Lone Star State and a Texas Revolution hero. Wallace died on January 7, 1899, and shortly thereafter the Texas legislature appropriated money for moving his body to the State Cemetery..
