Selby has been connected with Filderstadt since 2002.
Filderstadt is a relatively new city that only came into being on 1st January 1975 when five municipalities of Bernhausen, Bonlanden auf den Fildern, Harthausen, Plattenhardt and Sielmingen merged together.
On 1 January 1976 Filderstadt gained the title of a city and the coat of arms were approved on 10 August 1977 by Regierungspääsidium Stuttgart.
The arms are derived from the arms of the Barons of Bernhausen, who died out in 1839. The family played a major role in the history of all the villages and their arms were thus suitable as a common symbol.
