Sometimes when you read headstones, you're struck by the underlying story behind their lives. This headstone tells of a husband and wife who died only three days apart. Because of their young age, and the year 1918, one wonders whether they were victims of the flu epidemic that killed so many in 1917-1918. At the time of their death, he was 26 and she was only 19.

This is a tree stump headstone, mounted on four horizontal logs. The shield is inscribed:

C.C.
Stephens
July 31, 1891
Apr. 20, 1918
-----
Nannie
His wife
July 12, 1898
Apr. 23, 1918

Was the inscription legible?: Yes
