Booker T. Washington school, began in 1892 as a black high school in a time before integration. It was closed in 1968. This current building was constructed by the WPA in 1937-1938. The school is currently vacant, but appears that it is being remodeled. The red brick has been painted gray.
The school is two stories with a flat roof, and faces West. The main entrance at 502 N. Admire has a wide concrete staircase with brick sidewalls. The entry has two metal doors under a flat canopy. The name Booker T. Washington is shown above the entrance. Ribbon windows are set in groups of six, with a few in triples. Each window unit has four glass panes, and on the second level, the top pane is covered. The school is rectangular with a gable-roofed brick gymnasium on the south side. The gymnasium brick has not been painted.
A bronze WPA shield is mounted on the west elevation of the school. Photos showing red brick were taken in 2015; photos with gray brick taken in 2018.
