This lovely Coat of Arms of City of Ljubljana is located on the building of City Archive in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The dragon has been the symbol of Ljubljana since the Middle Ages. An ancient Greek historian records the story that, on their way to the Adriatic sea, Jason and his Argonauts, laden with the Golden Fleece, had to carry their huge boat across the moors around today's Ljubljana (then Aemona), where they were harassed by huge crocodiles (or dragons) of some kind. This prototypical crocodile, so the story goes, evolved into the image of a dragon, more to the medieval taste. The structure beneath the dragon is the Ljubljana castle, which still stands.
