This monument is located in the square Carlos Alberto and it was designed by the arquitect Manuel Mendes and made by the sculptor Henrique Moreira.

It was inaugurated on the 9th April 1928. There was another monument on the same spot, removed in 1925 due to a general dislike of the population.
