The Beechcraft CT-134 Musketeer was a military training derivative of the C23 Sundowner built by Beechcraft for the Canadian Forces. The CT-134 was a single engine, low-wing, four-seat light aircraft with fixed landing gear and a limited aerobatic capability.
The initial complement of 24 aircraft were delivered in 1971 and carried the tail numbers 13401-13425. In 1973 the numbers were modified to 134201 -134225 in order to eliminate confusion with different aircraft types having the same tail number. In 1980 an additional 24 Musketeers were ordered with tail numbers 134225-134248. They were the more modern Civil designator BE23 Sundowner IIs and were given the military designator CT134A Musketeer II. The original 24 were retired and given to various non-flying institutions and used as battle damage repair units and displays. The proviso on donation was that the aircraft were not to be flown due to the excessive pounding the airframes and engines took after 10 years of initial pilot training.
All Musketeer IIs were replaced by Slingsby Firefly aircraft by the early 1990's and subsequently retired.
134217 was taken on strength 4 April 1973 - Renumbered from 13417
Used by 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School at CFB Portage, Manitoba. 9 August 1992, struck off strength and sold off by Crown Assets Disposal Corporation. Reported derelict in southern Ontario in 1998. Reported preserved at Marks Union Tire in Brockville, Ontario in 2005.
The aircraft languished in parts next to its current location for many years. In recent years restoraton efforts have begun. The fuselage and wings have been reassembled and the aircraft now sits on landing gear. The cabin has been gutted, and all internal and external electronics have been removed as well. The airframe has been painted, and bears the fanciful tail number CT134870, in honour of 870 "Vampire Squadron" of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.
