Wensum Park is one of four built by Norwich City Council in the 1920's and 30's as part of a Poor Relief scheme. Designed by Captain Sandys-Winsch, the parks superintendent, the pavilions were built using concrete and were renovated as part of the millennium celebrations. They are now Grade II listed buildings. On the banks of the River Wensum, the park has many levels, a children's playground, a paddling area and a duck pond.
The labyrinth, in the centre of the park, was created in late 1999 by Tchenka Jane Sutherland as a candle-lit labyrinth for the millennium celebrations in the cloisters of Norwich Cathedral. It was moved to Wensum Park the following spring. It is composed of granite blocks. Surrounding the labyrinth are twelve small granite columns whose tops have been carved with the signs of the zodiac. Behind these are twelve flower beds planted with herbaceous plants associated with that sign.
