The 12' high by 6' square Mitchell Fountain is made of granite and iron. It was erected in East End Park before 1897. The fountain has A four tiers with iron spray fixtures. Water issues forth from the top of a central column and cascades down through three increasingly large basins. The third basin is supported by four circular columns and has a series of eight lion heads spurting water into a 10' diameter ground level basin. A circular brick plaza surrounds the fountain.

The central columns has the inscription:

THE GIFT
OF
MARY A. MITCHELL
