Tom Collins was the pen-name of Joseph Furphy he was born in Victoria on 26th September 1843 and died in Claremont Western Australia on 13th September 1912. His grave is in Karrakatta Cemetery. He is best known for his Book "Such is Life" which he wrote in 1897, but was not published until 1903. The book is a fictional story of country life in southern New South Wales and Victoria, during the 1880s
