US visitors to Falcon Lake should be aware of many things. First and foremost: the western edge of Lake Falcon is disputed territory between the Gulf and Sinaloa drug cartels, making the Lake a dangerous place to be. Pirates in speedboats are known to prey on American boaters on the lake. One man was killed in such an attack.
Secondly: Visitors should know that this lake is an international body of water. US residents should be careful to stay on the right-hand side of the poles that are placed along the old Rio Grande Riverbed to mark the exact location of the International Boundary.
