A.G. Studer Building
The Ranton and Studer Blocks were built in 1914 on the site of a wood building, Didsbury's first post office, which was destroyed by fire earlier that year. Alfred George Studer erected his second General Store on this site using brick construction that conformed to new, stricter building codes.
These single-storey brick buildings reflect a Didsbury practice of store front construction in which adjacent commercial buildings share façade elements and an interior wall. Some of the businesses to occupy this location include McCullogh's Ladies Wear and later, Didsbury Hardware. These late Edwardian buildings retain simplified versions of classical architectural details in the form of pilasters and the brick corbels that suggest a cornice and dentils.
