The majority of the business section of Didsbury consists of brick buildings, and for a very good reason - FIRE! In 1919 this building replaced a wooden one destroyed five years earlier in the New Year's Day 1914 fire.

Burnside Building
This building was built in 1919, replacing a small wood store that, like most other buildings along Railway Street, was destroyed in the fire of 1914. The raised central roof parapet is a design treatment used on other former public buildings such as the Westerdale Building. The Burnside Building was Didsbury's post office from 1919 to 1967.
