On the edge of a small drove, just at the beginning of a way of the Cross in a pilgrimage site named Studánka (The Spring) can be found a statue of St Nepomuk. There is a thousands statues across Bohemia, most of them more or less the same, but this one represents very unusual depiction of the Saint John of Nepomuk. He is depicted here as a pilgrim, reportedly during his pilgrimage to Stará Boleslav. He hold his a stick in his left hand and under this hand he has a hat. The life-size statue is placed on a richly decorated Baroque pedestal with Latin inscriptions on all four sides. There are following:
a) "DE VOTO HUNC DIVU CULTU QUI TRANSIT HONOR"
b) "1760 OBNOVENO 1933"
c) "ESSE SOLET MERCES HUIUS HONORIS HONOR"
d) "QUO GRADIETUR NON EST PEREGRINO META IOANNI PLUS ULTRA ATHEREOS SCANCIT ADUSQUE POLOS Va De CVM hoC angelo".

From one of them it can be easily deduced that the statue comes from 1760 and it was renovated in 1933.

Biography

"John of Nepomuk (or John Nepomucene) (Czech: Jan Nepomucký) (c. 1345 – March 20, 1393) is a national saint of Bohemia, who was drowned in the Vltava river at the behest of Wenceslaus, King of the Romans and King of Bohemia. Later accounts state that he was the confessor of the queen of Bohemia and refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. On the basis of this account, John of Nepomuk is considered the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, a patron against calumnies and, because of the manner of his death, a protector from floods and drowning."
