The church is neo-classical in style with Greek Revival influences. The front facade is dominated by the entrance way with the a pediment that features a wide flat entablature and a narrow lunette window in the tympanum which is supported by six shallow pilasters.

The First Trinitarian Congregational Church has been closely associated with Scituate's founding in 1634. Rev John Lothrop and 30 followers left England in 1634 and first landed in Boston and then the area called Scituate. The first meeting house was built in 1636. The town government was greatly influenced by the Congrgationalist for nearly 200 years.

Disagreement between on religious doctrine led to the split between the Unitarian and Congregationalists in 1825. With the majority of the congregation voting in favor of the Unitarian doctrine, the traditional Congregationalists split and built this chruch in 1826.
