The statue was created by Paul Gugelmann who is born in Schönenwerd in 1929 and now lives in the neighboring Gretzenbach. Although internationally successful as an artist, he worked until his retirement in 1992 as a designer in the Bally shoe factory in Schönenwerd. He created the Nepomuk Statue in 1993.

From: Wikipedia: "John of Nepomuk (or John Nepomucene) (Czech: Jan Nepomucký) (c. 1345 – March 20, 1393) is a national saint of Bohemia, who was drowned in the Vltava river at the behest of Wenceslaus, King of the Romans and King of Bohemia. Later accounts state that he was the confessor of the queen of Bohemia and refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. On the basis of this account, John of Nepomuk is considered the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, a patron against calumnies and, because of the manner of his death, a protector from floods and drowning."

DE: Viele Brücken haben eine Staue des Heiligen Nepomuk, da dieser der Schutzheilige der Brücken und gegen Wassergefahren ist. Diese Statue auf der Aarebrücke zwischen Schönenwerd und Niedergösgen ist aber ziemlich aussergewöhnlich. Der Heilige sitzt zurückgelehnt auf einer kleinen Brücke und hält sich an einem Stab worauf sich ein Windrad mit vier Fischen dreht.

Die Statue stammt von Paul Gugelmann, der 1929 in Schönenwerd geboren ist und heute im benachbarten Gretzenbach lebt. Obwohl als Künstler international erfolgreich, arbeitete er bis zu seiner Pensionierung 1992 als Designer in der Bally Schuhfabrik in Schönenwerd. Die Nepomukstatue schuf er 1993.
