Victoria Park was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1840 in response to public demand for a park in the East End. It was opened to the public in 1845 and is now the largest and most popular park in East London.
The park is orientated in a mainly south west to north east direction and is bordered along its south west end by the Regent's Canal with the Hertford Union Canal forming the south east boundary. Major roards for the north east and north west boundaries. A main road, Grove Road, runs through the park in a south east to north west direction that effectively splits the part in two. The East Park is about four times the size of the West Park. There are many entrances to the park from all directions through "gates". There is a location map at each "gate".
The map is part of a large information board and is incorporated into the centre section. The map is oriented north-up with some rules of the park shown above and below the map.
The park is shown as green with the lakes in the park and canals shown as blue. Roads oaround the periphery of the park are shown and named. There are 24 numbered locations on the map and a key indicates what can be found at each one.
