ABOUT THE STATUE:

The "Dykkaren" statue is of a silver scuba diver. It was created by sculptor Ola Enstad. The diver is fully suited and wearing his mask, fins, and air tanks. The diver has his arms crossed over his chest. He is leaning slightly forward and appears to be contemplating whether to dive into the water directly in front of him.

[ENGLISH TRANSLATION] Wednesday, 16 June, a new statue unveiled at Senior wharf. The statue "Dykkaren" by Ola Enstad is the latest addition to art decoration of the docks.

The new sculpture on Senior wharf was created by Ola Enstad and was purchased by the City of Oslo in 2013. Enstad (1943-2013) was a famous Norwegian artist and worked primarily with sculpture and collage. He has used divers design several times, including during installation "dive sculpture" on Vaterland, which has six divers hanging in the air, in a plunge into the walk.

The sculpture on Senior wharf is made of stainless steel, which is also polished, so one gets the mirror surface it has today. Enstad died unfortunately never seeing the sculpture placed, but he knew Oslo had purchased the work.

Now the sculpture receives pride of place at Senior wharf, where it looks toward the Oslo Fjord, ready to jump in. The sculpture has been named "Dykkaren" because it is a diver being depicted, but also because of the Norse word Dykkar, which it means.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

[ENGLISH TRANSLATION] Ola Enstad (born November 10, 1942 Lesjaskog, died on August 2, 2013 Oslo) was a Norwegian sculptor, living in Oslo.

Enstad was educated at SHKS 1967-1969 and at the National Academy of Art from 1969 to 1972. He debuted at the Autumn Exhibition in 1970, and with a solo exhibition at the Artists' Association in 1973.

His sculpture Neve and rose were commissioned by Asker municipality, but the municipality canceled it and the sculpture stands since 1990 Lilletorvet in Oslo, ahead of the United Federation headquarters. His dive sculpture (also 1990) is an installation of six frogmen, mounted in steel wire, by Olafiagangen / Aker River (see photo). Stegosaurus (1977) is a play installation of plywood, first placed on Grünerløkka 1979, later in Torshovdalen and 1989 in Jølster. The statue was dismantled in 2000.

Ola Enstad received Ingeborg and Per Palle Storm Award in 1999. The book The physician directly how the sculpture issue was published in 1997, based on an art project earlier in the 1990s.
