A large memorial wall, inside the Julian Pioneer Museum dedicated to George Sawday. The plaque says, "Ex-Confederate cousins, far from their war torn Georgia home, settled here Nov. 1, 1869. Panned the first gold, this starting the Julian Gold Rush of 1870."
