This unusual memorial with sculptured furniture has been built on Sydenham Green, a park created by the removal of homes due to aircraft noise from the Sydney Airport runway extensions.
The large red sofa is a real work of art which can only be fully appreciated by a close-up look. The concrete sofa is covered with an elegant "throw" rug which has been crafted by local school children from tiled pieces. These handmade tiles tell the children's story of the aircraft noise pollution and the losing of their homes, and the tiled speech bubbles reflect their words and feelings. It is a part of the remarkable collection of sculptures making up the Lounge room of a house, with sofa, lamp and fireplace, and newspaper articles of the real story behind this artwork.
