The fountain consists of a nude woman and a cherub inset into the courtyard wall. The woman holds a bunch of grapes in her left hand over the cherub's head, while her right arm is bent at the elbow and crosses over her legs with her right hand resting on her left thigh. The cherub holds a goose by the neck with his left hand. In front of these two statues is a lion kneeling on the ground. The lion has a shell basin resting on its back and head. The water comes out of the goose's mouth and enters the basin. [The basin was not operating the day we were there so you can't see water coming out of the goose's mouth in the photos.] Based on information in the book Adriaen de Vries 1556-1626: Imperial Sculptor by Frits Scholten (
visit link) (see page 226), it is likely this fountain was part of the original Neptune Fountain here at the palace.
"During the war against Sweden in 1659 it was dismantled. Its sculptures were taken to Sweden as war booty and set up in the park at Drottningholm Palace near Stockholm." --Source (
