Ocean City, NJ was founded by four Methodist ministers in 1879. The men formed the Ocean City Association. They mapped the town, build the streets, bridges, infrastructure, railroads, schools and the Ocean City Tabernacle.
The 50' long ark that protrudes from the façade of the Ocean City Tabernacle has seven portholes. Elephants peek out of the first two portholes and a pair of giraffes share the last porthole. On the gunwale there is a lion and a sheep coexisting peacefully. The superstructure has a pair of toucans on one side and a pair of gulls on the other side.
The mystery of the significance of the ark is partially solved when you discover that the Ocean City Tabernacle offers a program for children called the Ark Kids Club and Christian Pre-School.
