A historical marker on the building reads (in Icelandic):

This house was built as a municipal primary school in 1882. It also operated as a post office and headquarters of Iceland Telecom. The house was used as a police station in the years 1931-1965. The cellar was a well known detention facility. Our men placed the "stone" or "stones" as it was called. Core developer of the building was F. A. Bald, head builder of Parliament House.

Some Additional Information (in Icelandic):

This house was built as a schoolhouse in 1882. On the site before the house was built stood Flensburg Traders, which can be see in the drawings from 1801. The Secretary-General of the building was Bald, but he had recently completed the construction of the Parliament. Lyders, who also had worked with Parliament, was responsible for the stone construction. In 1885 made the council building leikfimihús timber to house. It was an iron roof and painted with oil paint on the outside and within. In 1898, the primary school moved into a new house south of the pond and the house was then made into a post office. In 1914 a new post office was built south of the site... in 1921 a radio mast was installed on the roof of the building. In 1922 the roof was changed to a mansard roof.
Iceland Telecom moved from the house in 1931 and it was then made a police station. Mail and phone took back the house after the police station moved to Hverfisgötuna. In recent years, it has become a cultural and information center for young people to use.

Visit Instructions:
To log a visit, you must post a photo of you in front of the building described, with your GPS in the photo. No drive by photos.

I have had NO problems with taking photos of Police stations but please respect the fact that some services may be nervous about having their photo taken and inquire as to why... I have found that once things are explained they are more than happy to let me photograph the building, crest, chief... (they are people too!)
