The Vista trail follows the summit of the Merkel Hills in Usery Mountain Park. The trail .5 miles long and intersects with the Merkel loop trail at the north and south edge of the hills. The elevation gain is approximately 150 feet. The terrain is in the Sonoran Desert ecosystem so nearly all the surrounding flora and fauna bite or poke. The Merkel Hills are decaying granite so the footing is often tenuous. There is some room for parking at the trailhead. Across the road is a picnic area with restrooms, water and more room for parking. There is also a shaded area with exercise machines.
