This is a fascinating museum, telling the story of crime and punishment within the Cherokee Nation.

Opened on May 1, 2012, the Cherokee National Prison Museum is located in a stone building adjacent to the original stone prison built in 1874.
Interpretative tours give much information about crime and punishment within the Cherokee Nation in the past, and the types of punishment for various crimes. Also, you will relive the lives and careers of the famous outlaws of the past, and have an opportunity to tour the original cells, and the primitive prison kitchen.
On the grounds is a working blacksmith area, and reconstructed gallows where men after being tried and convicted, were often taken to be hanged.
This is a fascinating museum and well done.
