An extensive history of the Cherokee people in Oklahoma is documented on granite blocks along the sidewalks of the Cherokee National Capitol.

The Cherokee National Capitol building stands on a full-block section of downtown Tahlequah. It is currently the location of the Cherokee tribal courts. Donated pavers are located along the sidewalks and walkways.
Also imbedded into these walks are granite blocks engraved with an extensive history of the Cherokee peoples in Oklahoma.
* Beginning with the date 1839, the terrible Trail of Tears is described
* Following this, dates are given to describe the forming of the Cherokee Constitution
* the establishment of their cultural and educational advancements
* their connections in the Civil War
* The Dawes Commission and Indian allotment of land

* Returned jurisdiction of the Cherokee National Capitol
* The establishment of Cherokee automobile tags in 2001
