This plaque has been placed in front of historic St. Paul's Anglican Church in Trinity, itself a historically designated landscape. Reverend Clinch was a medical pioneer who introduced a vaccine for smallpox.

The plaque reads:
Born in England, this medical and missionary pioneer came to Newfoundland in 1775 and later settled in Trinity (1783) where he died. He is noted for introducing the Jenner vaccine to British North America (1800) and for compiling a valuable glossary of Beothuck terms.

Né en Angleterre, ce missionaire, qui fut aussi un pionnier de la médicine, débarqua à Terre-Neuve en 1775 et s'établit plus tard à Trinity (1783) où il mourut. Il est bien connu pour avoir introduit l'emploi de vaccin Jenner en Amérique du Nord brittanique (en 1800) et pour avoir établi un précieux glossaire de la langue béothuk.
