The church consisted of wooden buildings called "hall church". In the eleventh or twelfth century there was a tuff Romanesque church with a straight closed sanctuary and a freestanding bell tower. Later, the church was rebuilt of brick (Roman bricks). The church had a circular closed choir and an adjoining tower. In the 13th century it was closed around choir replaced by a Gothic polygonal choir and in the 16th century followed the aisles in Gothic style and therefore the tower was enclosed on three sides.
Until 1598 it was a Catholic church dedicated to St. Pancratius. There were eight altars. The main altar was St Pancras. There were also the Holy Cross, St. Anthony, St. Stephen's, the Blessed Sacrament, St. Martin, St. Anne and Our Lady. The Lady Chapel was decorated after the restoration of 1959 as a wedding chapel.
The organ of the organ builders C.A. and A. Oeckelen to Glimmen dating from 1882.
