Coonabarabran is a town of 3,100 on the junction of the Newell Highway, the main interstate route between Queensland & Victoria & the Oxley Highway which connects it to Tamworth, a major regional centre.

The Town Hall is used for functions, meetings & festivals with a capacity for 900 guests or 500 when seated at tables. The shire office is across the road. Guests might be in the area to view the national park, Sidings Spring Observatory (12 telescopes including Australia's largest optical telescope) or the Pilliga Forest, a major forestry & nature conservation zone.
