On August 14, 2005, Veterans' Memorial Park was officially opened in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the end of hostilities WWII and the Year of the Veteran.
The Veterans' Memorial Park is unique in its design, its purpose and its scope. Three gardens have been created as a living memorial to those who served and continue to serve in Canada's Armed Forces: the Garden of Sorrows designed as a WW1 trench; the Garden of Remembrance, a heritage garden; and the Garden of Hope, a colorful international garden.
The park is a place to remember the sacrifices of so many for the freedoms we all enjoy, and it has become a place to listen and to humbly learn as veterans come here to tell their stories. It is a place to celebrate, a place to reflect, and a place to hope.
Eight black granite monuments display the names of hundreds of Canadian soldiers who served or currently serve in our military. The monument to the Forgotten Heroes honors the many animals who have served.
