St Matthews is a rare example of a church being built in two stages in which each half is in a different style of architecture , the original 1904 part is in the Federation Gothic style and the 1964 half is in the Late Twentieth Century Ecclesiastical style.
The earlier church was designed by Sir J.J. Talbot Hobbs and the later extension by Forbes and Fitzhardinge
