"The Yorktown Monument, rising 95 feet above a green, is an elaborate and symbollically ornamented column of white marble bearing a figure of Liberyu with arms outstretched." --- Virginia: a Guide to the Old Dominion, Oxford University Press, 1941 The monument is now part of the National Park service in Yorktown National Battlefield. There has been an added parking lot and smaller memorials places around the monument, which gets hit by frequent lighting.
