Plan to spend several hours here at the Cherokee museum and cultural center. Designed by a Cherokee architect, Charles Chief Boyd, the building is constructed of glass and steel and native sandstone, with lots of natural daylight.

The museum houses a permanent Trail of Tears exhibit, temporary exhibits, two major art shows each year, and the genealogy center. Vast quantities of documents and records relating to the Cherokee Nation are here. On the grounds is a replica of a Cherokee village c.1710. In front of the entrance is a memorial plaza with monuments and sculptures of famous leaders of the Nation. This place is fascinating, beautiful and so well documented.

The museum is located at the site of the Cherokee Female Seminary, constructed in 1851. The seminary burned down in 1887 and the only thing remaining are three brick pillars from its beautiful porches. The seminary site is on the National Register of Historic Places.
