Taken from the Smithsonian website, "Standing male figure holding a rifle. He wears a campaign hat, shirt with sleeves rolled up above the elbow, trousers and shoes. He grasps the barrel of the rifle with his proper left hand and the butt of the rifle with his proper right hand. A canteen rests on one hip and a haversack on the other, with their straps crisscrossing on his chest."
The sculpture is one of many in Penn Valley park. This one is special as it is dedicated to the fallen heros of the Spanish American War. It faces toward the Liberty Memorial, which is dedicated to the millions of lives lost during World War One. This statue has a granite pedestal with writing ti indicate it is a memorial. It also features a rifle gun in the hand of the soldier.
