This Palo Verde tree is located in the landscaping of the ranger station in the Usery Mountain Regional Park in Mesa, Arizona. The tree is placed there to feature typical flora of the park. This particular tree is not very old, mature specimens have a much greater drip line. However, the tree's particular adaptation to the Sonoran Desert, chlorophyll in the branches and trunk, makes it unique. The sign points out that the tree, the Arizona State Tree, drops its leaves during times of drought and photosynthesizes through its bark.
