Building started in 1361 by knight Dirc Loef van Horne. Later it was a famous castle where Hugo de Groot was prisoned (and escaped in a book chest. Later part of the fortifications of the Hollandse Waterline to protect Holland.
Now you can visit the fortifications and also the old castle in the middle.
