Banjo Paterson, as he is more commonly known as, was born on 18 February 1864 at the Narrambla homestead which stood just to the north east of the memorial. He was an Australian bush poet, journalist and author. He wrote many ballads and poems about Australian life, focusing particularly on the rural and outback areas. His most notable poems include Waltzing Matilda, The Man from Snowy River & Clancy of the Overflow.
The memorial stands on a hill side & was erected in 1947. A park 'Banjo Paterson Park' is being developed beside the memorial. The memorial is worded:
The Australian poet Andrew Barton Paterson 'Banjo' was born 17th Feby 1864 at the Narrambla homestead which stood 8 chains north east of this memorial. Erected 1947.
