A plaque on the bridge explains that Bathurst Land Grants were established in 1823 for properties in the Eglinton area. The road was surveyed in 1876 & crossed Kelloshiel Creek which in those days ran along a deep gully. Crossing the deep gully & the creek was difficult & tenders for a stone bridge were called for in 1895, with J. Burns Senior a Bathurst stonemason, awarded the contract in 1896 for £185.
The bridge is a segmented masonry arch bridge, built of granite, 13 metres in length & 6.5 metres high. The arch way spans 4.4 metres & the bridge is 4.7 metres wide.
Over time soil erosion from land clearing & grazing upstream caused gravel to deposit under the bridge to the point today it would only be possible to crawl under it. In the 1920's locals could ride their horses & sulkies under it.
It was restored in 2011 as a monument to the pioneers of the district after 100 years of use.
