The travel guide stated that back then:
DESTIN (25 pop.), an old and well-known fishing resort, occupies a narrow strip of land between Gulf and Choctawhatchee Bay.
--- From Florida: A Guide to the Southernmost State, 1939

The population today (2013) is roughly 13,000 people. The small village has grown up to become a popular tourist destination on Florida's "Emerald Coast" with its sugar white beaches and dark green Gulf waters. With nearly 300 lodging choices, the population swells during the summer months to allow an extensive array of retail, entertainment, and restaurant choices focusing on the beaches.

The primary photo shows the fishing village today with boats still going out, but row of condos along the water. The coordinates are at the welcome sign on US98 coming in from the east.
